LONG TIME NO POST! Gosh, i miss this blog. How are ya people?!

Oh well, arms raising, question being asked, confusion worn on your faces: "Where the hell have you been?"

That's a pretty good question, where the hell have i been? hmmm.

There were pretty much a lot of things going on with my life since my brother's birthday. Me going to Singapore, doing LOTS of photography jobs, going to friends' birthdays, doing some driving lessons, working on my TOEFL, playing Legends of Wrestlemania, and keeping myself busy. See right there? I'm in the balance mode of being social & anti-social.

Not only things going on in my life, but also outside my life. Jacko's death, 2 members left Panic At The Disco, The Indonesia President Election, holiday time's runnin' out...

Did i just type holiday time's runnin' out? Ugh.

But, i'm pretty excited to be in the 12th grade. Hello senior year, goodbye sophomore.

I'm so tired. Last night 8 friends came over and it was fun, since we rarely meet. I think i'm gonna go back to sleep, besides, i'm uploading tons of photos and if i do too much on the net, it'll fail and i'll go riot.

Music Guilty Pleasures

I love music. I love music so much, it's ridiculous. I spend too much money buying CDs or music magazines or concert DVDs. Gw suka semua jenis musik (kecuali dangdut, sorry). Gw suka nyari cool bands dari beberapa sumber. Dan temen2 gw ada yang malah bilang kalo gw itu walking-music-encyclopedia, karena mereka selalu minta rekomendasi musik dari gw. Gw ga batas2in genre favorit. Tiap org nanya, "What's in your iPod?" gw cuman bisa reply, "What's not in my iPod? I have everything."

And i mean, EVERYTHING. From pop to rock, from dance to metal, from house to Indonesian songs, from musicals to movie soundtracks, from jazz to classic, you name it, i probably have it.

Orang2 sempat menemukan musik2 aneh yang ada di iPod gw. Gw ga menganggap aneh, gw anggap guilty pleasures. Orang2 yang either liat nama band/penyanyi trs langsung bilang "WTF, lo dengerin beginian?!" atau orang yang melihat nama aneh band/penyanyi lalu dengerin lagunya lalu ngomong hal yg sama ke gw. Mungkin buat gw bukan guilty pleasures juga sih, lebih ke guilty pleasures gw bagi mereka. I'll put it on here so, enjoy reading.

1. Ipso Facto
This 3-piece (used to be 4 piece before keyboard player, Cherish Kaya left) psychedelic/garage rock band. Gw jujur ketemu band ini gara2 pas baca Alternative Press, Faris Badwan of the Horrors told the readers that Ipso Facto is a band that we need to know. So, gw langsung ke myspace mereka dan pas lagu Smoke & Mirrors mulai, i fell in love with the band. The whole mellower and gothicer version of the Horrors is just great! Mungkin beberapa orang akan merasa, "WTF, lo dengerin lagu kuburan yang super dramatik." But i think this band definitely have the talent to break into the mainstream music industry because of their quirky taste in music. And not to mention, band yang consisting of Rosalie Cunningham (vocals & guitars), Victoria Smith (drums) & Samantha Valentine (bass) ini punya sense of style yang cukup unik yang bakal jadi inspirasi bagi fashion lovers. Their quirkyness indeed is their strength.

2. The Horrors
Haha mungkin temen2 gw ampe capek kali ya gw ngebacot soal The Horrors. Gw pertama kali tau mereka dari majalah musik, dan hal yang sangat mencolok adalah tagline buat promosi album pertama mereka (Strange House), "Psychotic Sounds For Freaks & Weirdos"
Wow! Sangat menarik bukan? Se-psycho apakah musik mereka hingga menarik perhatian (not to mention, each of the members hair is definitely unique and catches people's attentions). Akhirnya gw mencoba untuk melihat video klip mereka yang berjudul "Count In Fives" and i thought, "Holyshit, they're so weird it's fucking amazing!" so i went to multiply; pas jaman2nya masih bisa download disana, then download the whole album! And i just thought this band has the cool garage and punk vibe you know. Setiap gw dengerin lagu2 band yang beranggotakan Faris Badwan (vocals); Joshua Third (guitars); Spider Webb (keyboards in "Strange House", bass in "Primary Colours"); Tom Furse (vice versa of Spider Webb); & Coffin Joe (drums), gw selalu imagine those cool underground punk-ish new wave kind of gigs. Mungkin orang akan wtf mendengar Faris Badwan's singing or growling atau how creepy Spider Webb's keybord sounds or how noisy/garage Joshua Third's guitar (fyi, he made his own guitar effect pedals distortion). Tapi justru keunikan2 tersebut yang membuat musiknya jadi one of a kind! Di album kedua The Horrors (Primary Colors) agak beda musiknya karen menurut gw mereka agak lebih dancy kind of garage rock. Tapi it's still a cool record to listen, walaupun gw sebenernya agak berharap i can watch their shows in their "Strange House" days haha.

3. Bond
Orang2 pada ngetawain gw. Katanya gw terlalu metal buat dengerin musik classic crossover kyk Bond. This 4-piece string quartet consisting of Haylie Ecker (people said that she's been replaced by Elspeth Hanson but idk; first violin), Eos Chater (second violin), Tania Davis (viola), & Gay-Yee Westerhoff (cello) has been my favorite since i was in the 3rd grade i guess. I used to play violin that's why i love this band so much! Mereka2 ini talented banget dan tiap liat video mereka lagi perform, gw sangat2 amazed with their skills. Dengan skills yang hebat, mereka sanggup mengaransemen beberapa lagu sehingga lagu tsb jadi wah banget. Walaupun sekarang lg masa2 hiatus, i really hope they would make a new record with some awesome material. And this proves that i'm not only a loud music listener! LOL

4. HORSE the Band
I LOVE THIS BAND! Haha seriously, any kind of nintendo music, love em. Tp this band is what we call: nintendocore. Gw pertama kali tau band ini gara2 ke myspacenya Maura, trs lagu di profilenya waktu itu adalah lagunya band ini. It's so ridiculous, it's amazing. Gw langsung download2 lagu2 band yang beranggotakan Nathan Winneke (vocals), David Isen (guitars), Erik Engstrom (synths/LSDJ), & Daniel Puoliot (drums) ini. Dan memuaskan, gw bilang musiknya inovatif, amazing, dan savage! Musik yang didengar kalo lo mau killing somebody (pumps out your energy i mean haha) atau hanya sekedar buat gila2an. Bahkan mereka ada lagu yang agak ngedance kyk "Sex Raptor" satu lagi yang bikin gw suka ama band ini walaupun dengan aliran yg aneh adalah, their live shows. Fucking intense.

5. Movie Soundtracks/Musicals
Yeah, i got a lot of laughs because of this. I'm cooler than you because i listen to The Sound Of Music theme songs hahaha. The truth is, gw sangat suka film scores, film sountracks, dan musical films. Dan gw selalu berfikir kalo musicals music is beautiful. Banget.
Sama halnya dengan movie soundtracks. Gw sangat suka dengan musik2 Toy Story atau film2 Disney karena ya itu, beautifully arranged and made. Dan juga kadang lo bisa replay filmnya di kepala lo saat lo dengerin musik dr scene atau dr film tsb.

6. M2M
Go ahead, laugh. I love them really, although they're defunct now zzz. Gw tau mereka pas gw kls 1 sd... or kapan ya? Pokoknya SD lah. Lucu aja gt ya liat mreka nyanyi2 trs ada pokemon ("Don't Say You Love Me", anyone?). Belum lagi album covernya dominan warna pink ama ungu... COME ON, for little kids that kinds of album was kinda hard to resist. Akhirnya gw beli kasetnya dan sukses ngeplay lagunya terus ampe seminggu lebih hahaha shit. Tapi ya, karena sekarang udah bubar, ya gitu aja, gw males juga dengerin album solonya Marion atau Merit. M2M masih suka gw play, reminds me how girly i was when i was little haha.

Wrasslin'

Haha yes i know it's actually wrestling. Temen2 terdekat gw pasti tau kalo gw suka banget ama olahraga yang satu ini. Kok bisa sih rum? Well, blame RCTI haha. Jadi ceritanya, dulu kls 1 SD gw malem2 jam stengah 11 kurang nyariin nyokap. Then, bokap bilang kalo nyokap ada di rumah tetangga sebelah. Trs pas gw akhirnya ke rumah tetangga itu eh pas udh masuk tiba2 anaknya tetangga gw liat jam trs kek yg "Wih, udah jam setengah 11, nonton SmackDown woi." gw kek yg "perasaan itu game deh?" akhirnya karena gw penasaran gw ikut anak2 tetangga gw itu ke ruang TVnya mereka, dan dari situ lah gw sangat terkesima ama perpaduan (cie bahasanya) olahraga, storyline, characters/gimmick, juga berpikir betapa hebatnya orang yang punya organisasi wrestling ini untuk mengorganize dan memimpin this multi-million dollar business.

Mungkin orang2 bilang, "It's fucking fake and you're watching people pretending to hurt each other." you know what? So what if it's fake? It's entertaining and it's just as same as soap operas; with more muscular guys and sexier (even claimed the sexiest) women on television. Tapi gw sangat respect dengan wrestler2nya (and even the crew). They work 300+ days on the road, away from their families, putting their lifes and lives on the line just to entertain the people around the world. But they love this business so much, they don't even care if they even break their own hand. You gotta give them props for that.

Favorite gw tetep aja WWE no matter what sih hahaha ya abis udh bertaun2 gw ntn WWE. Yes, i do watch TNA or ROH or any wrestling promotion, tp ga sehardcore gw ntn WWE. Yes, i did watch WCW in the old days and no i didn't watch the ol' ECW days, i only watch them on YouTube lol.

Satu hal yang gw suka dengan wrestling adalah storylinenya. Walopun storyline wrestling jaman sekarang sampah, tapi tetep menarik. Like i said before, this is like soap opera, only better haha. Juga bermacam2 karakter unik yang menarik maupun menyebalkan memenuhi dunia wrestling. Jarang2 kan lo ketemu orang yang narsisnya kelebihan banget kayak Maryse atau John Morrison? Atau orang yang psychonya tai2an kek Randy Orton? Atau orang idiot kek Festus? Yeah you can find it on wrestling shows.

Yes, emang Indonesia pernah gunjang ganjing soal orang tua yang nuntut WWE shows buat dibanned krn mereka nuduh kalo anak2 mereka meninggal gara2 meniru gerakan2 wrestling. Untuk disini, gw sangat pro wrestling (hahaha it's so weird to type that 'cause pro-wrestling and pro wrestling have a different meaning). Why? Because, one, it's Lativi's (channel yang nayangin WWE) fault for changing WWE's time slots from 11pm to 10pm. Anak2 bakal lebih mudah ntn jika jamnya jam 10, dan saat Lativi merubah jamnya kembali ke jam 11 malam, anak2 malah nungguin acaranya. Stuuuupidddddd. Two, it's the children's parents' fault. Harusnya mereka menjaga anak2nya saat nonton TV dan memberitahukan mereka kalo gerakan2 wrestling ga patut dicontoh karena, well, they're not wrestlers, duh. Oke, gw pernah ngomong soal ini ke temen gw dan temen gw bilang kalo "They're kids! They don't understand what their parents say to them." OH HELLO! Kalo lo berani bilang gitu, berarti anak2 yang lo sebut adalah fucking alay yang never listened to their parents and couldn't see the different between being a good kid or a bad kid. Udah jelas2 WWE taro "Don't try this at home" okay well do it at the park.... no, i'm joking haha serius deh kalo ada perhatian gt kenapa mesti dicoba2 juga sih? Pro-wrestlers aja masih bisa cedera, apalagi kita2 yang ga punya pengalaman olahraga ini? Mati di tempat, bitch.

Yayaya, gw tau ini emang kasus lama, tapi ga salah kan kalo gw ngomongin soal ini haha lagi moodnya.

Kabar terbaru, WWE memang menurunkan ratingnya agar menjadi family-friendly menjadi PG dari TV-14 (or 15?). That means no blood, no sexual references, or over the top violence. Good news for WWE karena sangat membawa duit ke kantong perusahaan, bad news for some fans. Tapi ya i feel good aja sih, walaupun agak kesel karena Cena jadi SuperCena ampe mampus, tapi yang penting wrestling still exists.

I'm probably going to still watch wrestling until the end of my life, i guess.

Stand Out

Okay jadi Senin besok gw ulangan semester 2, jadi expect nothing within a week karena gw sangat mengejar2 nilai 8 atau 9. Iya, gw tau keknya gw obsessed. Kenapa? Karena gw sangat mengincar untuk kuliah di univ negeri hahaha tau sendiri kan negeri minta nilainya ampe berapa ck. Jadi strategi gw adalah untuk mempertahankan nilai Matematik, Sosiologi, & Seni Musik (midsmester 90an), naikin nilai pelajaran yang sisanya (midsmester 80an) dan SUPER NAIKIN NILAI BAHASA JEPANG (midsmester 79). Tugas berat emang, cuman ya gatau kenapa gw jadi sadar sendiri bahwa gw harus belajar huhu doain ya supaya gw bisa ngerjain UASnya dan dapat nilai memuaskan. Amiiiiiin.

Enough about me. Jadi kemarin2 gue banyak jalan2 lah istilahnya, dan one thing that i realize, orang2 banyak yang ngeliatin gw dari atas ke bawah. Apakah karena gw pake kerudung? Atau there was something on my face? Ataukan karena gw famous (jijik)?

Gw ngeliat diri gw sendiri. Nothing was wrong with me. I had appropriate clothes on and i didn't behave inappropriately. So what was the matter? Gw saat itu pake celana jeans. Not skinny enough to be called skinny jeans dan not baggy enough to be called baggy jeans. Plaid dark blue jeans dengan kaos long sleeve hitam dan kerudung hitam. Make up gw cuman pake eyeliner dan gw cuman pake sepatu Converse putih butut, tas selempang biru kipling gw dan kacamata baca gw.

Nothing weird.

Apparently bagi orang lain itu weird, sampe2 gw diliatin. Uh, hello, didn't your parents teach you or even tell you to not intently stare at people because it's rude? Gw sih ga peduli ya diliatin apa gimana karena gw sendiri kan ga punya masalah ama gw sendiri.

Tapi saat gw melihat2 keadaan sekitar ya gw sadar. Orang2 yang gw lihat parade pake baju trendy majalah2 jaman sekarang. Baju2 yang bener2 dianggap lagi IN sekarang ini yang kesannya akan ketinggalan jaman kalo ga dipake. Dan gw, terlalu ignorant untuk mengikuti trend.

Okay, well, gue memang suka ubek2 site fashion dan liat2 majalah tentang fashion terbaru. Cuman gw merasa amat sangat uncomfortable untuk memakai baju2 trend jaman sekarang itu. Cuman ya disitu masalahnya. People don't care if it's unconfortable or not, if it goes with the current trend, like it or not, wear it. Gw jujur agak sebel dan bosan liat orang2 pada pake baju trend jaman sekarang karena in my opinion, they're not wearing their own style, they're wearing somebody's style and damn proud of it. Kenapa gw bilang gt? Karena gaya mereka ini udah dikopi-kopi banyak orang. Seriously, berapa ratus orang yang pernah lo liat di satu tempat make baju tie-dye dimasukin ke celana skinny jeans mereka dan pake sepatu flat atau sendal gladiator pendek dan bawa tas jadul.... I've seen too much.

Mungkin bagi mereka yang berpikiran kalo itu keren, mereka dalam hati sambil jalan bakal yang, "Hey, i'm a cool kid, 'cause i wear this and this is what the cool kids wear." but for me? uh, copycat, i'm sick of your style, fuck off.

Gw ga ngerti sih kenapa orang2 lebih memilih untuk mengikuti trend daripada MEMBUAT trend. Kalo menurut gw (dan gw kutip Theodore Roosevelt) being an original is BETTER than being an imitation, even the imitation is better the original. Apa salahnya kan mendobrak tren yang udah dipake jutaan orang? Oh, i know, you're afraid of being 'different'.

Gw inget cerita temen gw, sebut aja namanya L. Dia cerita ke gw kyk gini,

"I kinda hate people wearing tie-dye shirts gt sekarang. Jadi banyak bgt yang make. Gw inget waktu itu gw ke pim dan gw ama temen gue doang yang pake kaos tie-dye ama aksesoris boho gt and people thought we were weird, and look at the world now! We started it then jadi bosenin kyk gini."

See? She was being different and didn't care about it. Being different is being unique and it stands out. Whether people think you're odd but that oddness is your strength. I don't follow the current trend and i feel good about it. Gak normal untuk memandang orang aneh atau uncool hanya karena dia ga follows the trend that you follow, because that means you are fucking stupid. Even if you're being a weirdo, there's gonna be something about you that strikes people's eyes! Trust me, even gaya nenek2 kalo lo bisa jadiin keren, dude, you're gonna be so cool.

Ya menurut gw sih cuman ga usah lah memaksakan untuk mengikuti tren agar 'dianggap'. I am weird, i am different, i don't follow anybody's style and i'm proud of it. Itu yang harus lo banggakan. (:

Feel offended by this?

Okay, jadi dalam waktu beberapa jam lalu, gw sempet surfing tentang music & hatersnya. This is what i want to talk about.

Orang terdekat gw tau kalo gw suka segala macam musik (kecuali dangdut, gw udah bisa accept country sih setelah bertahun2 haha). Daaaaan mereka juga tau kalo gw sangat sangat jarang ngebash musik atau band atau penyanyi (kecuali Amy Winehouse, i'll bash her anytime i want lol). Alasannya sih, i don't even want my favorite bands to be bashed by other people, so why should i bash other people's favorites kan?

Tapi ya di dunia ini kan ada yang orang toleran dan juga ada yang tidak. Like i said before, well in this case typed, gw udah browsing tentang hal ini. Rerata, kebanyakan orang ngebash bands/singers/music karena beberapa alasan. Yang gw dapet sih, kadang seperti alasan "They're sellouts." atau "They don't have musical talent." atau "They produce uneducational lyrics." atau "Who the hell likes them anyway?".


Untuk alasan pertama, gw udah pernah jelasin di post yang udah lama lah, tapi untuk jelasnya:
gw ga suka dengan term sellout. Seriously, i hate the word. Wait, correction, i despise the word. It sounded like i'm bashing the word, aye? Haha but really. Gw gatau kenapa band seperti Fall Out Boy, Paramore, Good Charlotte dibilang sellouts. Okay well, gw mungkin ngedefense Fall Out Boy ama Paramore karena mereka 2 of my fav bands, but i'm not a Good Charlotte fan. Ada beberapa ex-fans dari mereka yang mulai ngebash mereka hanya karena mereka tambah terkenal dengan musik yang cukup berbeda dan bisa masuk ke chart2 musik mainstream di Amerika sana. Kalo menurut gw malah, it's great! They have worked so hard, and to know that they have the recognition by more people adalah hadiah yang bener2 terbaik untuk mereka because it IS what they want. & juga jika mereka change their direction for the better, is it ther fault to do so? or would you rather want them to be in the bad direction? Fall Out Boy sudah kebal dengan hate-words yang dilontarkan karena mereka udah jadi 'big', begitu juga yang lainnya. Gw rasa juga percuma kan mau maki-maki ngebash mereka ampe berbusa kalo mereka sekarang aja punya fans ampe berjuta-juta orang? They won't stop making music and releasing another album for the next 10 years, or even for EVER!


Untuk alasan kedua, oh well. Gw juga kadang suka komen ke diri gw sendiri, kenapa band ini bisa terkenal? Kenapa band itu bisa terkenal? THEY DON'T HAVE THE MUSICAL FACTOR! Tapi setelah gw teliti lagi, setiap orang punya kerelatifan terhadap sesuatu itu berbeda-beda. Bisa aja bagi gw Metallica udah berskill banget tapi belum tentu bagi musisi yang udah jago banget bilang Metallica udah mencapai skill 'Jago'. Jadi ya, tingkatan bakat orang kan beda-beda. Lagipula, it's all about the music, man! Maupun ga ada gitar solo full distorsi atau vokal yang super keren atau drumnya dengan beat cepat, selama lo enjoy dengan musicnya, is that so wrong? There's nothing to be hate about. Banyak orang yang suka D' Massive yang musiknya sudah jelas rumornya ngecopy band luar. Namun, they do can play instruments. So, untuk gw sih, selama mereka bisa main musik, as time goes, they can practice and improve their musical talent. Jadi ya, no use juga kan misal lo hate band2 yg lo anggep ga punya musical talent tapi probably maybe 1 year from now or so, they'll be fucking talented on your level and rocking your ears out. Give them time. Words don't really get them to stop, they whip those bands to work harder to blow your minds off.


Alasan ketiga mungkin memang benar, beberapa musisi bikin lirik asal-asalan yang mungkin amat salah jika didengar oleh music listeners. Kalo gw sebagai pendengar musik, hal yang gw dengar pertama adalah: 1. Iramanya, 2. Lirik, 3. Alat musiknya. Jadi ya, kalo gw sih, kalo gw suka musiknya, gw ga bakal peduli tentang lirik lagunya. Wether it's about sex, drugs, race, religion, love, hate, protest, you name it. Kalopun liriknya gw ngerasa ke offended gt, ya gw anggap sebagai joke. I can like the music without liking the artist, aye? Mungkin memang, musik adalah salah satu media untuk menyampaikan opini atau perasaan hati, tapi kalo misal lo ngerasa offended hanya karena lyrics, ya pikirkan aja lagi. Mungkin ada beratus2 orang yang akan kerasa tersinggung, namun ada beratus2 orang lagi yang suka ama lirik uneducational itu. Lo akan ngabisin waktu buat hating the bands with those lyrics atau berantem sama fans dari those bands. Semua orang punya kebatasan tersinggung masing2, kalo lo udah ngerasa itu uneducational bgt, ya anggep aja joke. Most of musicians wrote things straight from their minds, mostly about their lives. You can hate it for your own enjoyment, but to stop them from playing music, gotta say, it's a tough job. Whether the lyrics are bad or not, give a little credit for their creativity.


Dan untuk alasan terakhir, menurut gw adalah alasan paling bodoh. "Who the hell likes them?" Well, idiots, apparently even your most hated bands actually have fans too. I'm not a fan of Jonas Brothers but i do know some people that love them to death and i have no problem with it. Mungkin memang banyak orang yang benci sama Jonas Brothers karena musiknya terlalu cewek dan juga yang suka mayoritas ya, cewek2 (in this case, underage haha sorry). Tapi jangan karena itu jadinya ngehina fansnya. Gw banyak nemuin metalheads yang komen di video2 youtube bands like Drowning Pool, Disturbed, Sevendust, Godsmack, Slipknot, etc gt, dan isinya yang kek "Copy & Paste this if you like real music, not like Jonas Brothers, Miley Cyrus blablabla." or "...% people listen to Disney stars music, copy and paste this if you're the rest of ...% who listen to blablablabla." which i think it's stupid. It makes you not cool when you're intending to be cool pasting that. People have different tastes in music. Gw sekeluarga punya music taste yang beda satu sama lain, tapi they respect me blaring My Chemical Romance in the car dan gw juga respect bokap gw blaring those groovy jazz. Jadi, agak aneh untuk ngehate bands karena fansnya (atau mungkin ini sebenernya mereka hate bandsnya lalu menghina fansnya, but still, wrong).

Tapi in the end, percuma kalo kita mau hate bands atau ramblings about them di internet atau bikin petition to stop them, karena itu malah jadi cambuk untuk mereka buat stay in the music business & mereka akan work twice harder so they can prove you wrong (well, hate/bash bikin bands jadi positif juga ya haha). Mungkin mereka akan sangan berterimakasih jika kalian lebih ngasih constructive critiscms, they care a lot to those. Mereka udah kebal dengan hates and/or bashes. No use kan?
